Restaurants used to have their food delivered to customers by their own employees. Recently, however, a new platform has been rising in popularity. It combines food delivery with Internet technology. Many stores can take advantage of this platform by having their food sent to customers through contracted personnel. Two of these services are Foodpanda and Uber Eats.
With services like these, we can find more choices of food available if we don't feel like going out or are busy doing something. These services provide us not only convenience but also flexibility. As for the stores, the platforms have helped them to attract more customers than they did before. If these platforms had not been established in Taiwan, perhaps some of these stores would not have gotten started in the first place. Besides, for someone who is desperate for money, what a good way it is to make some extra cash!
While people enjoy the convenience, there are some disadvantages we should take into consideration. First, letting delivery guys, who are strangers, know your address might not be a good idea. Some customers have claimed that a few dishonest delivery people have stolen their personal information. Second, stores that pay these platforms might not get enough business and thus have to raise the prices to make ends meet. Third, the delivery people may risk their lives by riding fast to get to as many customers as they can, not to mention sometimes meeting annoying customers.
There's no doubt that this new innovation has made our lives much easier, yet we cannot afford to overlook the problems it has brought. The government should cooperate with these platforms to come up with better rules for regulating this system. For the people who use such services, showing a little respect for the delivery guys is a good idea.
