After the Quake
Ryan is a young man whose family were killed by a strong earthquake. He still remembers that day.
It was in the middle of a hot summer night. He felt thirsty and walked out of his room to get some water. Suddenly, the house began shaking badly and was knocked down in seconds. Ryan was lucky because the couch beside him protected him, but his family were not. His parents and his brother died in their sleep. His cat, Clover, was missing.
After the earthquake, Ryan found a photo at the bottom of a drawer in the rubble. It was taken when he and his family went camping for the first time. In the picture, everyone was smiling. This was the only photo that Ryan found. Ryan didn't cry; he didn't want others to worry about him.
Two years passed, and Ryan became a book salesman. One day, he went to a bookstore that was not far from the place where his house used to be. While he was chatting with Ava, the shopkeeper, Ryan saw a cat running up to him. It was his cat, Clover. "You're alive. I thought you were dead," said Ryan. He suddenly started crying; the sorrow of losing family hit him like waves. After hearing his story, Ava told Ryan that she adopted the cat two years ago and that he was welcome to visit the cat anytime.
Another two years went by, and now Ryan's going to marry Ava. During the past two years, Ryan kept visiting Clover and he fell in love with Ava. They decided to become a family, with their cat, Clover, of course.
