You famously avoided during the tech boom investing in technology companies. (I'm) curious about what you're like as a user of technology. You know, you play bridge online.
Yeah, one of the trick questions that Bill Gates and I use sometimes when we're addressing audiences. He'll say, "Excluding email, which one of us spends more time on the computer?" And the answer is: I spend more time on the computer than Bill does, leaving out the email, because I spend at least twelve hours a week, but weren't just playing bridge on the computer. I do all kinds of other things.
Like what? I mean do you get news that way? I get a lot of news that way. I...I...uh...
I look up all kinds of things that I used to have to spend a week and right away to get. I mean, it's so useful, in so many ways. I mean, I... If I'm writing the annual report, there will be twenty things I wanna check. You know that I just go through the computer and check them out. But I... Listen, I like going to YouTube. I'll go there and I'll listen to one song, and then I'll see all these suggestions on the side. It's an hour later I'm still listening to suggested songs or something.
Alright, so you are on YouTube. What are you watching on there?
Well, I watch a lot of things. I mean, somebody tells...sometimes...people tell me there's something kind of interesting to watch. So if there's a political gaffe or something. But if I go there, I may go there to listen to Frank Sinatra sing My Way, you know, and...and there'll be about eight different versions of it probably. And I'll click on that, but then I'll see that, you know, eight other things on the side, Sinatra doing something else lure me. An hour, two hours will go by, and I'm having the time of my life. I like to see Tina Fey do Sarah Palin too. I may...I'll go and type that in. So I...I... You know, YouTube should be charging me a lot of money.
恩，我看很多東西。我意思是，有人說...有時候...人們告訴我有些東西挺有趣的而值得一看。所以如果有個政治醜聞或什麼的。但如果我去那兒...我也許去那聽Frank Sinatra唱My Way，你知道，而且...
So do you have an iPod? I do not have an iPod. No. An iPad? I do not have an iPad. No. So, I'm...I'm slowing entering the 20th Century well. Don't...don't push me now.
As I... As I said before, I know you have a cell phone. Well, yeah. Alexander Graham Bell gave me one of his early ones.
就像我...就像我之前說的，我知道你有隻手機。嗯，是阿。Alexander Graham Bell(電話發明者貝爾)曾給我一台他早期的發明。
Do you...um... Do you ever read books online? Do you use a Kindle or a reading device?
I prefer... I read things. I read a lot online. And...and...but I would prefer to have a book in my hands, and I prefer a newspaper in my hands. On the other hand, I...I go to newspapers online over time to read them. But...but if you get...just get me a choice, I would...I would still rather have it in my hand. They will...you will come out in ten years, and you'll be visiting me, and I'll be the last guy in the world, reading a real newspaper with a landline phone next to me. And then you'll be interviewing me and say, "What was it like back then?"
What about social media?
Uh, no. I'm not into that. No. Have you ever been on facebook? No.
And, you are not... I have had some impersonators on there, then yeah.
And Twitter? I haven't done that. A fellow from Clark, Nebraska is co-founder of that I believe, but uh...
it hasn't got to Omaha yet.
